Apple sued over iPhone Web-surfing technology

2008-11-24t185704z_01_btre4an1gg900_rtroptp_3_business-us-apple-lawsuithmediumBOSTON – Apple Inc. is the target of a lawsuit that claims a technology the iPhone uses to surf the Web infringes on a patent filed by Los Angeles real estate developer Elliot Gottfurcht and two co-inventors.

Appartently this lawsuit was filed by EMG Technology LLC on Monday in the U.S. District Court in Tyler, Texas. EMG was founded by Gottfurcht, is based in Los Angeles with an office in Tyler, and has just one employee.

Apple Event on September the 9th

It has been confirmed today by Apple, that a special event will be held on September the 9th. The invitations this year have the slogan of “Lets Rock”. Which leads to suspicions of new a iPod line being released.

HUGE Apple Updates Coming…

According to various sources, within the next month, a lot of new things by Apple are going to be released.

- Revamp of entire iPod line.
- Small cosmetic changes to Touch, Nano to see significant redesign (see pic below).
- iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
- iPod touch 2.1 software, iPhone to get update very soon after.
- iTunes 8.0 (“it’s a big update w/new features”).
- All of this coming in the next 2-3 weeks.
- Blu-Ray support coming in Mac OS X 10.5.6

Apple Buys Chip Maker PA Semi

Apple revealed late on Tuesday that it has agreed to buy PA Semi, a company that designs embedded microprocessors. Sources close to the deal said the transaction cost the Mac, iPhone and iPod maker US$278 million in cash, according to Forbes.
Apple spokesman Steve Dowling stated “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not comment on our purposes and plans.”

Even though Apple isn’t commenting on its plans for PA Semi, it seems possible that it could be considering using the chip maker’s designs for upcoming products that rely on embedded processors, like new iPods or even the iPhone. If so, that could spell bad news for Intel and its push to convince Apple that the iPhone should be based on its chip sets.

Apple files for patents on laser-based head-mounted displays.

A new series of patent filings by Apple outlines attempts to modernize head-mounted displays (HMDs) that can be plugged into iPods or iPhones by decoupling the image generation components from the headsets themselves, which would pave the way for more lightweight and comfortable designs.

Apple sued for iPhone Visual Voicemail patent infringement

Klausner Technologies has sued Apple and AT&T Mobility for infringing on a patent outlining Visual Voicemail. The patent describes a “Telephone Answering Device Linking Displayed Data with Recorded Audio Message.”

The lawsuit was launched in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas, yesterday. This is the second time Klausner has been sued for Visual Voicemail. The patent was first issued to Klausner in 1994 and reinstated on March 18, 2008 — just one day before the latest lawsuit was launched.

Apple Sued Over Fundamental iTunes Model

A suit was filed Wednesday against Apple over the possibility that the iTunes music store and iPod are ‘illegally using a patented method for distributing digital media over the Internet.’ ZapMedia Services filed the suit, accusing the well-known OS and computer manufacturer of violating patents obtained just recently. ‘The patents in question cover a way of sending music and other digital content from servers to multiple media players, a broad description that could also apply to a wide swath of other companies selling digital media and the devices to play it. ZapMedia said it met with Apple to discuss licensing, but Apple rebuffed the offer.
